Below are a series of palimpsests and erasures. The erasures seek to draw out the truth behind the words of the law, while the palimpsests hinge on the words “in” and “of,” referencing that Southern church phrase that says Christians are to be in the world, but not be of it. The phrase carries an ironic duality with it for queer people in the religious Deep South–we are in that world, but not of it. – Raye Hendrix
